Glock parts

I got a few more parts for my 19C in the mail today. I had ordered a GlockWorx tungsten guide rod and an ISMI 18 lb. flat recoil spring to replace the polymer rod that comes from the factory. The Pearce Grip frame insert (sometimes referred to as a butt plug) for the grip also arrived, so I quickly got them all installed. Two drops of oil on the guide rod, and I think I'm good to go for my next range trip. Hopefully the guide rod change out will help the failures to feed. I am also thinking of polishing the feed ramp a bit.

Current Glock 19C mods:
  • ISMI 18 lb. Flat Wire Recoil Spring - $9
  • GlockWorx Tungsten Guide Rod - $53
  • Pearce Grip Frame Insert - $6
  • Ghost 3.5 lb. Trigger Connector - $13

Glock and reloading

I stopped by Bass Pro on the way home today to pick up some power. I ended up going with IMR 700-X. Hopefully it'll run fine. I loaded 15 rounds. Getting familiar with the loading process on the progressive press proved to be messy and more difficult than I anticipated. Oh well, I'll get there.

When I got home, I'd received the Ghost 3.5 lb. Trigger Connector for my Glock. I quickly grabbed the gun out of the safe and got it installed. I had a bit of trouble initially. I didn't seat the connector in the block sufficiently, causing the trigger not to pull. This also resulted in my inability to remove the slide. To get it off to correct the connector seating, I had to remove the slide plate. A pain in the butt, but a learning lesson.

I thought I'd post a couple more pictures.

Magpul stocks adventure

As stated previously, I was going to Cabela's to pick up a Magpul stock for my AR project. While there, I decided to also get one for my M&P 15-22. The M&P 15-22 uses a mil-spec (faux) buffer tube while my AR project uses a DPMS comm-spec buffer tube, so unfortunately they aren't interchangeable. I selected both the mil-spec and the comm-spec stocks, in black, and headed for the checkout.

Upon getting home, I quickly headed to the office to start replacing the stocks. I started with my AR comm-spec stock. Black, check. Comm-spec... Not so much. It was actually a mil-spec black stock in the box. Okay, not a problem; that'll fit my M&P. One down, one to go. I open the mil-spec black stock box in hopes of finding a black comm-spec stock. And, no. It was actually a comm-spec stock, but in dark earth color, not black.

Someone was having fun doing a switcheroo of the various stocks in the store. I also noticed that all the Magpul stickers in the boxes were missing. Guess the joker wanted those, also. Guess I'll have to make another run to Cabela's. What a pain in my ass. This will teach me not to check out the good prior to checking out.

On another note, I've replaced the Hogue grips on both the AR and the M&P with Magpul MOE grips. The Hogue rubber grip was too sticky (which is why I didn't go with the MOE+ grip), and I prefer the extra material behind the trigger. It just feels more comfortable. I've also ordered Magpul B.A.D. levers for both guns.

I didn't want to become a Magpul fanboy, but they do produce quality, desirable goodies for my guns.

Glock 19C problem

So, after 300 rounds at the range, I've got an apparent problem with my Glock 19C. I experienced five or six Failures To Feed (FTF). A couple forums I've read have blamed a limp wrist, but aside from a couple instances where I did it intentionally, it ran pretty flat and my wrist was stiff. I gave it a good cleaning and oiling, so I'll see what happens the next time I go out with it. I'll also change up the ammo, just in case the Glock doesn't like it.

Who knows, maybe the new guide rod and spring will even resolve the issue.

Traffic should have eased up sufficiently by now, so I suppose I'll be on my way to Cabela's to pick up that Magpul stock.

Concealed Handgun License and AR parts

I forgot to mention that yesterday I registered for a local Concealed Handgun License (CHL) class in late June. I've registered with the state, and will be getting fingerprints taken next Thursday. I might as well get all the paperwork out of the way while I wait for the class. It should be an informative experience.

Today I got a few of my new AR parts in the mail. I bought a DPMS comm-spec buffer spring tube to replace the one that came with the assembly I got originally. This one is actually in the proper dimensions to support the Magpul MOE Carbine Stock, where the previous one was too wide in a particular dimension. I also received my Tubb CS Buffer Spring. I'm looking forward to taking the AR out and seeing how it shoots. I just need to swing by Cabela's and pick up the Magpul stock. I think I'll go pick it up after I shoot today.

First Glock

So, it's happened. I've purchased my first Glock. I didn't think it would happen this soon, but there it is. I ended up going with the Glock 19C. I thought the ported barrel and slide made it look a little different from the typical Glock, and perhaps I'll even notice a difference in the recoil. We shall see, as I plan on taking it to the range tomorrow.

I've already gone ahead and also ordered a replacement guide rod and spring. I ended up with the GlockWorx ZEV Tech Tungsten Guiderod and an IMSI 18 lb. spring. I've heard good things about them. Certainly better than the polymer rod, which was already flaking when I took the gun out of the box for the first time.

Gun closet

I decided to upgrade the door knob on my gun closet after work today. I still need to replace the hinges, but it's a good start and better than just a standard knob. At least the would-be robber will need to work a little harder to get at my goods.

The lock I decided on was the Schlage FE959 in satin nickel. Unfortunately it doesn't match the style I have on the exterior doors, but I'm not sure anyone will notice that. The biggest problem is that lack of conformity of the interior doors.
